Ask me all about painting with my FLIPPERS (fingers)!!! We celebrated Tacky the Penguin today, along with all of the hard character work we have been doing. We discussed character traits, made penguins for our ceiling (complete with Hawaiian shirts), and painted just like Tacky!!! We learned that sometimes reading work can be hard, but also MESSY, and FUN!!!

Ask me all about Team Work!!! We have been discussing how to work like a team to get a job done! We have been book talking, partner writing, and playing many different math games together. Today, during choice centers, we focused on working as a team while we play!!! There was great team work in our kitchen area and at the Lego station! Check out the awesome community we built together! Ask me all about Tacky the Penguin!!! Tacky is the main character of a book we read by Helen Lester. We have been reflecting on the story and sharing our favorite parts! We just LOVE Tacky! He is such an odd bird!
Ask me all about my graphic designs!!! Today in math we used colored tiles to make different designs. We had to work carefully, count, and follow very specific rules. First we worked together on the SMART board. Then we built our own. It was tons of fun!!!
Ask me all about being a Scientist!!!!!!!! We did a science experiment this afternoon. Using our sense of smell, we had to guess what was in each science bag. Then we filled out a lab sheet. We noticed that our nose worked better when our eyes were closed...interesting!!!
We even made our lab sheets Scratch 'n Sniff!!!! Our noses were working overtime!!! Ask me all about our Mission....ADDITION!!!!!! Today in Math we practiced our number writing on Magnadoodles!!!! Then we got to make a math choice! We chose which Math Station to travel to....each one had a special math game that involves adding. We have gotten very good at working with numbers, and our math partners!!!
Ask me all about our mittens!!! We have been enjoying and comparing different mitten stories...The Mitten by Jan Brett, The old Man's Mitten by Yevonne Pollock, The Missing Mitten Mystery by Steven Kellogg, etc. We have laughed and laughed and shared many personal connections. Today we made our own pair of mittens and finished them off with tons of glitter! They are the best mittens in town! We know we will never lose them like the characters in our stories!!!
Ask me all about our Friendship Wreath!!! We read two stories about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Then we used our hands and many different shades of paint to make a wonderful wreath for our classroom door. Every time we look at it, we will be reminded that everyone is different and everyone is special!!!
Ask me all about our new read aloud!!! After lunch we curl up and relax with a chapter book. We just finished the My Father's Dragon trilogy, by Ruth Stiles Gannett. Now we are reading The Littles, by John Peterson!!! We are having so much fun visualizing "little" people with tails!
Ask me all about our celebration!!! We filled our Warm Fuzzy Jar, by working together and cooperating!!! To celebrate the Fifth Grade came down for an end of day Game Party. We played board games, listened carefully, followed directions, took turns, and had tons of fun. Thank you Fifth Graders for helping us celebrate!!!

Tomorrow we are going to celebrate by sharing our stories up on the SMART board with First and Second Grade. How cool!!!
Ask me all about our snowy afternoon!!! We read Snowmen at Night, by Caralyn Buehner and made many personal connections. Then, during our afternoon Learning Centers, we used our sense of touch to help build snowmen IN OUR CLASSROOM!!!! We even added carrot noses! We also painted snowy, night-time pictures. You will never guess what we painted with!!! How fun!! Ask me all about Racing Bears!!! We used the Smartboard today to learn a new Math Game. We "rolled" the die and raced the bears up the board. (Kids vs. teacher...guess who one???!!!) Then we broke up into partnerships and played the game at our math stations. Who knew counting could be so much fun!
Ask me all about Reader's Workshop!!! We are learning how to be good reading partners. We had fun sitting side by side, sharing our just right books, and taking turns. We read to each other and even spent some time talking about our books. It was so much fun!!!
