Ask me all about Rechenka's Eggs!!! Today we gathered together with our First and Second grade friends to listen to author Patrica Polacco read one of her favorite stories. It is a wonderful Ukrainian tale about Babushka and her goose, Rechenka. After the story, the author shared why she wrote the book and where her ideas came from. She also shared her love of decorating eggs in the Ukrainian style. It was very, very interesting!!!!

Ask me all about cleaning out my book bucket!!! Today we spent some time looking through all of our just right books. We made some important choices. We put back books that are a little too easy or that we have read many times. We also kept some of our favorites. We love cleaning out our book buckets because it makes room for new stories!!!

Then we worked with special markers to designing our own! We were going to hang them up in our classroom but everyone voted to bring them home to decorate. How cool!!!
Ask me all about the beanstalk that grew over night!!!! Yesterday we planted magic beans and when we came in this morning.....there was a GIANT beanstalk in the corner of our room!!!!!!
This week we have been reading many different versions of the tale Jack and the Beanstalk. We have been comparing & contrasting plots and retelling the stories using our favorite repeating lines. We have also been sharing other "giant" stories. One of our favorite ones is Abiyoyo, by Pete Seeger!!! Ask me all about my painting!!! Today we helped paint part of a mural!!! It is a special picture on the wall outside of Mr. Hibbert's office. It will make our "Caught in the Act of being Kind" bulletin board a permanent part of Warren School. Every student got to paint part of the mural. Kindergarten was in charge of the grass!!! We were very good at following directions and taking our time. What a fun learning experience! Thank you, Mrs. U, for all of your hard work and organization!!! Ask me all about our Warm Fuzzy Jar! We filled it....again!!!!! We all brought our snow things in today (Even Mrs. Brady!!!) and we spent some time outside in the fresh air!!! It was beautiful out. We made snow angels, went sledding, and even tried to build a snowman!!!! We worked hard together to fill our jar, so we got to play hard together, too!!! Today we met and talked with Officer Ed Demers, a K-9 policeman with the Middlebury Police Dept. He brought his friend and partner J.J. J.J. is a yellow lab and has been working as a police dog for 8 years. Officer Demers and J.J. travel all over the state. They work together to catch criminals, to find missing people, and to keep everyone safe. They are both very special Community Helpers!!! _ We celebrated our writing pieces today! For the past few weeks we have been looking closely at non-fiction/informational texts and “How To” books. We have been sharing a lot of great information!!! We also spent some time in the computer lab doing important research!!! We noticed that most informational books have real photographs and diagrams. So this month we decided to celebrate our stories in a special way. We chose photographs of our subjects. Then we used VoiceThread to record our information. It is important to be able to read the words, but it is also important to make the words sound like the author intended! We used spaghetti and meatballs to help us out!!! We have been drawing shapes on our SMART board, searching for shapes in our room, playing with shapes on our SMART table, and even turning shapes into our favorite things!!! Geometry is so cool!!!
Ask me all about which important place in the community we visited today!!! We visited the Warren Firehouse!!! Mr. U. taught us how to be a fireman. It is such an important job!!! He showed us all of his tools and emergency equipment. He let us climb inside the Ambulance and check out all of the supplies. He even brought us for a ride in the fire truck!!! We felt just like real firemen. We are learning that it takes many special people to make a community strong! _ Ask me all about Social Studies!!! We learned that a community is a place where people live, work, learn, and play together. Today we opened a Veterinarian's office in our Imagination Station. We learned how to be a vet from Dr. Humphrey and now we are applying all of our knowledge!!!! We have animals (stuffed ones :) and all the tools we need to take care of them. We also built a community during Learning Stations. It even had an airport!!!! What a fun day!! Ask me all about Dr. Seuss' birthday!!! Today was Read Across America Day. This year's theme was "Get Fit with Lit!" We had so much fun reading and dancing with all of our Warren School friends! We had special guest readers (Like Mr. Hibbert and Mr. Drapp) and a fun show at the end of the day...We also had a Popcorn Party in our Pajamas, to celebrate filling our Warm Fuzzy Jar! What a great day! |
