![]() Ask me all about my writing piece!!! We have been studying the author/illustrator Eric Carle!!! We looked closely at his writing and how he designs his books. We noticed his writing characteristics and tried each one! We investigated his art and illustrations. Then, after choosing a piece to celebrate we slowly and carefully created a piece of artwork in the style of Eric Carle. It took many days, but they are beautiful!!! Today we shared our finished posters. We were all so proud of each other!!! We are amazing writers!!!

![]() Ask me all about writing my numbers!!!! Today we used new tools to practice making numbers. First we met Mr. Smiley! Then we used chalk, a sponge, and a teeny-tiny towel to Wet, Dry, Try! We had to listen very carefully to all of the directions. We noticed that 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7 all start in the same spot!!! We worked so hard!!! But we had tons of fun!!! ![]() Ask me all about Earth Week!!! We have been learning about ways to help the earth all week! We recycled a playhouse for our classroom. We planted seeds for our garden. We read many books about helping the environment. And all week we have been working on our Eric Carle illustrations...they are made out of recycled paper!!! Today during Reader's Workshop, we played a bumble bee word game in honor of our Pollination Garden! This afternoon we worked outside together, with first and second grade, mulching and pulling weeds!!! Our Harvest of Dreams Garden is going to be amazing!!! What a great day! ![]() Ask me all about number sentences!!! In math, we are working on making math facts. We are using a lot of different math tools to practice our fact fluency. Beginning mathematicians need to use objects and counting to compute. This week we are using dominoes, tens frames, and two-sided counters!!! We love the games 'Parking Lot Dominoes' and 'Tip the cup'. Students can learn to compute accurately and efficiently through regular experience and meaningful practice. By playing these games we are becoming more fluent with our math facts to 5 and exploring our facts to 10. We are working hard and having fun at the same time!!! ![]() Ask me all about those April showers! In Science, we have been working on an over-arching weather theme all year. Today we took a closer look at our March and April weather graphs and noticed all the rainy days. Then we read a fun story with lots of DRIP, DROP sounds in it! During Reader's Workshop, one of our reading stations was raindrop reading!! We used our fine motor skills to pinch and hang raindrops with new sight words on them. Then we practiced writing them on our white boards. We did such a great job using lower case letters!!! ![]() Ask me all about getting back in the swing of things! We started off our day by sharing special news about our vacations....then we got to work!!! We had a wonderful Reader's Workshop and an amazing Writer's Workshop!! We learned a new reading game called "Roll that Word!" and in writing we started to publish the pieces we wrote during our Eric Carle author study. (Now we are being illustrators, just like Eric Carle!!!!) Who knew hard work could be so much fun!!! ![]() Ask me all about our special snack!!! Today we made air-popped popcorn and added some of the butter we made with Mr. Fischer!!! We watched carefully as the kernels popped then added the melted butter. We were so proud while eating our snack!! Then we went to Wellness and talked to Mrs. Wright about the Kids Marathon. We ran for a while in the gym, "finding our own pace". Being healthy is so much fun!!! Have a safe, happy, and healthy spring break!!! ![]() Ask me all about our guess reader! This week is spirit week at Warren School. In honor of "Favorite Character Day", Clifford came to read to us! He read us a story about visiting his brother Nero, a fire dog. It fit in perfectly with our Community Study. Thank you Mrs. Woodington!!! We just LOVE reading!!!! Ask me all about our 3D shape hunt! We searched all around the classroom and the school for cubes, cones, cylinders, pyramids, and rectangular prisms!!! We used clipboards to record our findings. We found globes, exit signs, lunchboxes, doorknobs and so much more!!! We learned that math is all around us!!!
![]() Ask me all about The Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson Burnett!!! It is our new read aloud and we love it!!! It is about a little girl named Mary who finds herself living in a brand new place with lots to explore. We have been doing a character study on our new friend Mary. We find her interesting because she is not a very nice girl. We have been charting her behavior and we noticed that she is starting to change!!! Yesterday she found the key and opened the door into the garden that has been locked for ten years!!! We love this book so much that we built our own Secret Garden in our classroom. This morning we all got a chance to curl up in it and read. How cool!!! ![]() Ask me all about my writing!!! We are studying Eric Carle. Today we visited his website www.ericcarle.com We read an interview with the author/illustrator. It was so cool learning about him. We also added some more observations to our "Mentor Author" chart. During writing, we each tried to "be like Eric". We were so excited about our stories that we were almost late for lunch!!! Ask me all about our new Character Study!!! In reading, we are taking a close look at our characters.
We have been looking at characters in our read alouds and our independent books. We started a list of all the different ways characters can act.... angry sad worried mad sour grouchy happy nice kind tired excited quiet mean jealous We even noticed that characters can change, especially when they learn a lesson! ![]() Ask me all about Eric Carle!!! We started an Author's Study today!!! We looked closely at The Grouchy Lady Bug, during Reader's Workshop, because we are studying "Character" (Boy, is he grouchy!!!). Then we looked at the story again during Writer's Workshop! We noticed many of the cool things Eric does as a writer. We started a list and then we went off and tried our hand at them. Some of us used a repeating line. Some of us wrote with different sized text. And some of us used bold, bright colors!!! We can't wait to look closely at another one of Eric Carle's books tomorrow!! |
